"Borussia and the Brits" – limited-time exhibition opens on Wednesday

The limited-time exhibition "Borussia and the Brits" opens to all fans at the FohlenWelt at 11:30 CEST on Wednesday. Before that, a trio of Gladbach legends will get a sneak peek.

The 110m2 exhibition, which will be the museum’s sixth so far, was designed and produced by the club and will be centred around the long and storied relationship between Gladbach and British football, starting with the club’s first ever matches against English teams in 1912 and 1914. Borussia also has a relationship with the British Army of the Rhine stationed in Mönchengladbach, as well as with Premier League giants Liverpool FC. The exhibition concludes with a look at the current Gladbach squad and their label of "A German Team", as well as the lifelong fans from Great Britain who regularly made the trip to BORUSSIA-PARK.

"There are so many different things that connect Borussia with the birthplace of football. Some games have changed the history of the club. Some were painful and taught us a lesson from a footballing perspective, while we associate others with success and unforgettable nights," said Borussia president Rainer Bonhof, who will open the exhibition together with former Gladbach players Wilfried Hannes and Christian Hochstätter. This will take place at 10:00 CEST, at a press event which will not be open to the public.

“The room that houses this temporary exhibition has been transformed to look like a classic football pub. A lot of attention has gone into the details and it’s been fully furnished,” explained Matthias Rech, the director of the FohlenWelt. There will be a lot to discover and experience in this pub. Visitors will be able to hear the story of the Foals’s first trip to Scotland at the bar from a player who was there in 1960. While playing table football, they can watch replays of the 1977 European Cup final against Liverpool or learn about how British fans fell in love with Gladbach. The FohlenWelt team has used a variety of different mediums to tell the big and small stories that connect Borussia with the birthplace of football. These tales about “Borussia and the Brits” have also been gathered in a magazine of the same name, which will be available from the FohlenShop from Wednesday.
